Vivianne Miedema scored seven goals over the two legs and has now found the net 52 times in 50 starts for Arsenal

Arsenal cruised into the Women’s Champions League quarter-finals in style as they hit eight against Slavia Prague in their last-16 second leg.

Danielle van de Donk and Vivianne Miedema both scored hat-tricks, along with Jill Roord’s effort and Kim Little’s penalty.

The Gunners led 5-2 from the first leg after the Dutch striker Miedema scored four goals in the Czech Republic.

The quarter-final draw will be held on Friday, 8 November (12:30 GMT).

Arsenal were at their formidable best and could have won by more, but they struck the woodwork three times before half-time and were denied by several good saves from Slavia keeper Bara Votikova.

Danielle van de Donk has scored 37 goals for Arsenal since joining the club in 2015

Van de Donk’s low shot, Scotland midfielder Little’s penalty, Jill Roord’s acrobatic effort and Miedema’s cool finish made it 4-0 at the break.

The Netherlands’ van de Donk and Miedema both completed their hat-tricks from close range after the break.

That took clinical striker Miedema’s tally of Arsenal goals to 52 from her first 50 starts for the Women’s Super League champions.

The Czech side had reached the last eight in Europe three times in the past four campaigns, but were no match for Joe Montemurro’s ruthless side.

The Gunners are England’s last-remaining side in the competition this term, after Manchester City were knocked out by Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

The first legs of the last-eight ties are scheduled for 24-25 March, before the second legs on 1-2 April.

Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema:

“We kept really patient and created a lot of chances. It was a really good win in the end.

“The [quarter-finals] are going to be way harder but we are very happy to be there.

“If you play Wolfsburg or Lyon it’s going to be really tough. They’re probably the two best teams in Europe.”

Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro:

“It was good to be able to try a few things tonight and get some players playing. We’re going to need the whole squad able to do the roles that are required.

“I’ve managed a few interesting players in my career, but Viv (Miedema) is special. We know that.

“We’re seeing a Viv that’s starting the press and the amount of work she’s getting done is fantastic.”
